Were Our Hearts Not Burning?
This past Saturday, Jason and I were blessed to spend the morning with the catechists and ministry leaders of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Central, LA, and St. Louis, King of France, Catholic Church of Baton Rouge, LA. We spent the morning walking through Luke 24, the Road to Emmaus. Topics covered included Understanding Scripture and The Eucharist as the Source and Summit of the Christian Life. Like the disciples on the Road to Emmaus, we asked the Lord to “Stay with Us,” closing the day in His awesome Presence with Eucharistic Adoration.
More often than we’d like to admit, we give so much of ourselves to our particular ministries that we forget to cultivate our own walk with Jesus (not to mention our own continuing catechesis)! Sometimes as adults we forget that we need to carve out times for our own reflection and reconnection. That’s why a Day of Reflection for Catechists (or any parish volunteers) is so important! Not only does an activity like this serve as a Thank You from the parish for all of the hard work put in during the past year, but it allows a parish to nourish its leaders spiritually and intellectually, building stronger catechists and volunteers!!
Thank you, St. Alphonsus for hosting us, and thank you to all who participated! Know that you will be in our prayers for years to come.
