So, how’s it going? We’re now about two weeks into Lent… this is a good time for a quick gut check. Have you made a plan to go deeper into your spiritual journey this Lent? Are you sticking with your plan? Has your plan gotten too easy? How can you continue to challenge yourself?
We find ourselves liturgically between two powerful Gospels. This past Sunday Jesus reveals a great deal of who He is through the Transfiguration. Next Sunday Jesus will reveal even more of Himself to a Gentile woman (who didn’t have the best reputation).
The question is, dear friends, what is Jesus revealing to you? The sacrifices we make this season, through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, are designed to help us to detach from ourselves–from the everyday busyness, materialism, emotional clutter, disordered desires, etc. of this world, so that we may prepare ourselves for the next.
Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to attend a young adult program held in the Archdiocese of New Orleans called Christ in the City. Archbishop Gregory Aymond charged all in attendance to challenge themselves this Lent to “Let Christ into the dark places of your hearts.”
If you’re finding yourself unsatisfied with your Lenten journey, if you’re not experiencing the growth you desire–go deeper! Challenge yourself! Take up the Archbishop’s call and Let Him IN! Place yourself on that mountain with Peter, James, and John, or at the well with the Samaritan woman. He wants to reveal Himself to you in a new and profound way. He wants to take you by the hand and lead you deeper. Go forward! Keep moving towards Galatians 2:19-20!!
Know you’re in our prayers,
